Assalamulaikum and Good Afternoon to all viewers and readers 😁
Basically, we had learned three related case studies. The first one is, Robin hood. According to the legend, Robin hood is a heroic outlaw in English folklore who was a highly skilled archer and swordsman. Robin Hood dissatisfied with Sheriff and his administrations, so he decided to leave the band and form a new band. He spent the first year forging the group into a disciplined band, united in enmity against the Sheriff, and willing to live outside the law. The fame of Robin hood and his merry men was spread quickly and the recruits keep increasing. In second year, Robin Hood faces problem in managing the band. The band was becoming harder to manage and discipline were decline, they were also face a problem which lack of food capacity. The sheriff was growing stronger and become more organized and Robin need to act quickly to overcome the band's weaknesses. To formulate an effective plan of action, we conducted a SWOT analysis on the band, suggesting alternative solutions and weighing the pros and cons of each alternative to be able to find the best possible solution to the problems.

Strengths
1) Robin was a strong leader.
2) Good in archeries.
3) Band’s motivation.
Weaknesses
1) New members were accepted without any criterion.
2) Increase members, disciplined was harder to enforce.
3) Few resources.
Opportunities
1) Possible association with the barons.
2) Band’s popularity.
Threats
1) Travelers deviation.
2) Sheriff has political connections.
3) Sheriff was growing stronger and become more organized.

So, that's all for this time, Thank you πŸ’•

πŸ’» Online Forum 3.0

Assamualaikum to all viewers and readers πŸ˜‰ here i am today, updating my blog again.

There was no class for week 13, but it replaced with an online forum that need us to join. Dr Ummi want us to share an example of how Rasullallah SAW or his Sahabah or the Khalifah practicing strategy during their time. Strategic management was existed since Prophet's era. Mostly, Prophet Muhammad practiced strategic management in wars. Prophet Muhammad implemented the speed strategy during war. During Ghazwah Khaibar, Prophet and Muslims moved very fast towards Khaibar as their competitors, Khaibar Jews did not noticed it. They used difficult route via mountains to reach Badar faster than their enemy and control the water and strategic location. Speed is a crucial strategy both in war and business as it leave the rival in confusion and the competition may be finish before they can react. In business, speed means time reduction in making decision, developing product and many more which associated with effectiveness and it is needed in any competition. As a conclusion, we can conclude that the success of the Islamic army during Prophet's era, shows that Prophet SAW is very good in planning and managing tactics and strategies of warfare.

πŸ’» Online Forum 2.0

24/10/2017 (Tuesday)
Assalamualaikum everyone, i wish you all are always in His blessings πŸ’•.

Now, i will continue with online forum part 2. For this time, Dr Ummi had uploaded one article, which was about copying other brands name issue. Click the link below for further reading about the article ↓,
http://says.com/my/news/new-local-cosmetics-store-sefarra-marred-by-controversy-accused-of-plagiarising-sephora

Regarding to this issue, Dr Ummi asked for our opinion about local brands that clone international brands. The boutique cosmetics store named Seffara is owned by an online influencer, Fara Fareez. It was learned that Farra has also founded her own line of make up, Farra Beauty. The opening of her store has been marred with controversy. Malaysian people have criticize her, as she plagiarizing a world brand cosmetics store, Sephora. The packaging style an even the Seffara's storefront looks like Sephora store which black and white based. Nowadays, instead of come out with a fresh idea, people tend to copy others brand. As for me, copying others product is one of an unethical behavior. Sephora is a famous international product, so, trying to copy this product will only give bad effects to Sefarra. In future, Sefarra may be sued by Sephora for plagiarism. If this happen, it will give negatives image to our country, Malaysia. In conclusion, every business must have their own uniqueness and specialty even though they are not well known yet. We can take example from successful businesswoman, such as Naelofar Hijab, dUCk scarves and Tudung Fareeda. All of the brands have their own uniqueness and identity which make them more successful and well-known in Malaysia an even globally. That's all from me for this post. Thank you for reading πŸ˜„

πŸ’» Online Forum 1.0

Assalamualaikum to all viewers and readers,

On 11/9/2017, we had an our first online forum in GOALS. Dr. Ummi asked us what is our vision and mission  in coming to the university? And how we strategize our actions in achieving that vision and mission?

So, have you ever answer this kind of question before? i bet yes ✔. Because it is a common question for students like us. It makes us think what we really want to be in future, or what we really want to achieve in our life. Like a dream. In general, each person has a different ambitions and everybody has their own reasons. For example, A may choose to be a teacher because all of his/her family in education background. Or B, wants to be a musician because he/she has interest in music.

From this online forum, for vision and mission in coming to the university, most of us have a similar perspective. Most of us write;

πŸ“ŽWants to gain knowledge as much as we could inside or outside lectures, in order to improve our skills.
πŸ“ŽWants to pay back what are our parents had sacrificed for us while we were study.
πŸ“ŽCan be helpful to the society in whatever we do.
πŸ“ŽAnd lastly, our main vision in coming to the university is to graduate.

But, every students will have their own strategy or plans to achieve their vision and mission. And how they will disciplined themselves to make sure they follow their plans towards achieving their vision and mission.

πŸŽ₯ Movie Group Presentation; The Intern

Asslamulaikum to all viewers and readers πŸ’•
In form of five persons per group, we were assigned to choose one movie which related to business or entrepreneurial activity. So, we decided to choose The Intern movie staring by Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro as main casts.

This is a comedy/drama type of movie. This movie was directed by Nancy Meyers, which is a very famous director in United States. In final week of this semester, we need to present this movie in lecture. In short, this movie was about Jules who runs fashion online shopping company in NewYork succeeded in expanding her company in a short term and she has been doing well both business and private. A seventy years old man named Ben is hired to Jules’s company by due to senior intern system. At first, Ben was out of the circles of the company because there was too much generation gap between Ben and other colleagues, but he has been gradually become popular among the company’s workers thanks to his conscience and gentle character. Meanwhile, Jules faced with big problems which were from both business and private. She had been being suffered because she couldn’t reveal her mind to anyone and she had to make a decision for the problems. The person who saved her was Ben. Jules has been gradually opening her mind to Ben thanks to his warm encouragements. Jules was given courage from Ben’s words and she decides to confront with various obstacles which block her way. There a lot of lessons we can get from this movie, especially for the intern. As an intern, the first impression is important. It will make a big difference for you. Looking good in front of employer will makes them think that you are really serious with work and always ready. Secondly, being recognition or noticed by employer is not everything. Also always be good to people, because we never knew with simple little things will meant too much to others. For example, looking to messy tables make Ostin bothers. Whittaker notices this and arrives early one morning to clear the entire desk without being asked. Ostin finds out and a huge smile of relief spreads across her face. Lastly, try your best to adapt with new environment, and don’t be afraid to share your fresh insights when necessary. So, i really recommend this movie to all, as this is one of the great and inspirational movie. This movie tells about real life and how we will handle it with calm and rational mind 🌹

πŸ‘― Individual Presentation; Current Issue

28/11/2017 (Selasa)

Assalamualaikum to all viewers and readers πŸ™‹, may we always in His blessing.  πŸŽ“

Basically, Dr. Ummi will choose about 5-6 persons per week to present current issue, which is an individual presentation. So, this day, i was one of the chosen student to present the task. I choose an article from The Star titled; Almost 800,000 Malaysians On Travel Blacklist, More Than Half Are PTPTN Defaulters. According to the Immigration Department, almost 800,000 Malaysians are blacklisted and barred from leaving the country. And the biggest group was from PTPTN defaulters which more than half of the total. While, the rest were blacklisted by Insolvency Department, Inland Revenue Department, EPF, Malaysians Custom Department and Immigration Department itself.
So, in connection to this, the Immigration Department with the cooperation of Malaysia Airport has set up the Pre-Departure Blacklist Check Kiosk to help Malaysians to to check their status before they leave foe overseas. The kiosk were placed at a high-visibility area so that travelers can spot them easily. For now, the kiosks are available in KLIA only. But in months, they estimated the kiosks will be ready at KLIA2. And with enough funds, the department also intends to introduce the kiosks at other entry and exit points such as Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah and Sultan Iskandar Building in Johor. Here we can see, a lot of efforts made by the government and non-governmental organizations as they worked together in order to improve the available systems in Malaysia for all netizens. So why we took things for granted? While studying, government already give us a financial assistance to each of eligible students which is PTPTN. After finished the study, we are responsibility to pay back what we owe in order to PTPTN department circulate the money to give to the future students who will further their study in university level. So that, the next students will not face difficulty in borrowing money. As a Muslim, we must pay off debts even it is not claimed by the debtor. It was also narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The soul of the believer is suspended because of his debt until it is paid off. ” Narrated by al-Tarmizi. That's all from me for this time, i hope it will give benefits to all of you. Insyallah πŸ˜„

πŸ“ˆ New Topic; Porter's Five Factor Model Analysis

So now i will continue with a new topic which is a Porter's Five Factor Model. Basically, Porter's Five Factor Model was introduced in 1980 and proposed that firms have to continue maintaining their competitive advantage. These terms "competitive advantage" and "industrial attractiveness" which have been used in other model eg; SWOT, all had similar dimensions related to industrial analysis and competitive advantages. It was not clear who used these terms first but almost all the models even have similar if not identical terms. But how they analyzed and used differ in methodology and intensity but in the end they help managers to come out with a better strategic decision.  There are five main elements in Porter's Five Factor Model, which are new entrants, suppliers, buyers, substitutes.

 Related image

The most importance of this force is the number of competitors or rivals and their ability to threaten a company. The larger the number of competitors, along with the number of equivalent products and services they offer, the lesser the power of a company. Suppliers and buyers seek out a company's competition if they are unable to receive a suitable deal. When competitive rivalry is low, a company has greater power to do what it wants to do to achieve higher sales and profits. Secondly, a company's power is also affected by the force of new entrants into its market. The less time and money it costs for a competitor to enter a company's market and be an effective competitor, the more a company's position may be significantly weakened. An industry with strong barriers to entry is an attractive feature for companies that would prefer to operate in a space with fewer competitors. Next, this force addresses how easily suppliers can drive up the price of goods and services. It is affected by the number of suppliers of key aspects of a good or service, how unique these aspects are, and how much it would cost a company to switch from one supplier to another. The fewer the number of suppliers, and the more a company depends upon a supplier, the more power a supplier holds. Besides that, this specifically deals with the ability customers have to drive prices down. It is affected by how many buyers or customers a company has, how significant each customer is, and how much it would cost a customer to switch from one company to another. The smaller and more powerful a client base, the more power it holds. And lastly, competitor substitutes that can be used in place of a company's products or services pose a threat. For example, if customers rely on a company to provide a tool or service that can be substituted with another tool or service or by performing the task manually, and if this substitution is fairly easy and of low cost, a company's power can be weakened.

πŸ“ What is Strategic Management?

One of the subject for this semester is Strategic Management. So, this time we were assigned by Dr. Ummi to update on what we have learned every week in Blog. So, here i am, posting this 😎

What is a strategic management? Based on Wikipedia, Strategic management is the formulation and implementation of the major goals and initiatives taken by a company's top management on behalf of owners, based on consideration of resources and an assessment of the internal and external environments in which the organization competes. While in Oxford book, Strategic Management means drafting, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its long-term objectives.

To achieve business goal, every firm  needs a planning or strategy. Because, strategic planning is important to an organization because it provides a sense of direction and outlines measurable goals. Strategic planning is a tool that is useful for guiding day-to-day decisions and also for evaluating progress and changing approaches when moving forward. The process of strategic management can be as important to an organization as the results. The strategic management process is made up of three main components: strategy formulation, strategy implementation and strategy evaluation/monitoring. Once the organization has developed specific strategy alternatives, implementing the strategies is the next stage. strategy implementation means executing the strategies, where the business strategy is translated into action. The final step in the strategic management is strategy evaluation/monitor which seeks to determine which strategies worked and which were not successful. If the strategies formulated did not result in the objectives being met or the actual results are not in line with the actual goals, then the strategy should be modified or reformulated.
